Trauma Informed Practices & Equity & Justice Systems Offerings:

Trauma Informed Practices in the Classroom

Each year in the United States approximately five million children experience some form of traumatic experience. Research has shown that these Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) can have a devastating impact on children, altering their physical, emotional, cognitive and social development. Educators and childcare providers encounter these children and families in their classrooms and often struggle to understand ways to best support the challenges they face. This session investigates how trauma impacts the child and the family and will gain a better understanding of how to support both with trauma informed responses, practices and policies that foster a journey toward growth and healing.

Brain Based Interventions: Impacting Children from the Inside Out

This hands-on training digs into the question of how to give children the gift of social skills through social engagement and brain based interventions that literally change the architecture of the brain and foster emotional and relational growth. This session explores strategies educators can utilize to make the most of teacher– child interactions, to turn them into valuable learning opportunities that support social–emotional, cognitive, and language and literacy development.

Surviving or Thriving Leadership

Inevitably, we face change every day of our lives which can have a different impact on the quality and effectiveness of our leadership. How we make sense of change will affect how we process change and our ability to respond in innovative and creative ways. Program leaders will gain a greater insight in dealing with personal and organizational change, why people resist change, identify some typical responses to change, discuss what shapes our views toward change, tips on overcoming the stress and anxiety of change and the role of personal empowerment in the change process. Participants will be given a toolkit with five keys for dealing with personal and organizational change.

Putting It All Together: Creating a Trauma Informed Climate

One of the major challenges for leaders is guiding a “change process”. How does a leader get people at all levels to understand, accept and facilitate the implementation of the “new” process and practices. In this session, we will examine, discuss and share how to implement and lead a program wide process of infusing trauma informed responses, practices and policies throughout an environment. Program directors will reflect on best practices in healthy, resilient climates in order to identify their role in transforming their own program climate to sustain trauma informed practices that stimulate continued growth and success for children, staff and families.

Understanding the Impact of Poverty and Disparities on Families and the Community

This session allows participants to reflect on how their own experiences shape the lens we gaze at others through. In a safe space, participants discuss sensitive topics such as race, equity, poverty, inclusion and bias. Participants will examine ways in which to plan supportive environments for diverse children and families impacted by the allostatic load of embedded social inequities. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of enlisting and including families in the process. Engaging dialogue will identify barriers and strategies to support family-teachers interaction/ communication and will examine how the climate does/ does not utilize impact sensitivity with children and families impacted by poverty.

Building Confidence and Resilience in Children Experiencing Change and Transition:

“Resilience is a developmental process with a lot of opportunities to practice.” Participants will examine intentional practices that build persistence, confidence and resilience in children by developing trauma informed environments, brain based approaches and culturally sensitive engagement that foster stability and emotional regulation for children and families as they navigate change and transitions.

Soul Care Series Offerings:

Longing to Belong

As companies, schools, employers, and programs look to recover from losses experienced in the pandemic, our conversation must flip from programming to engagement.

Human beings want to belong and NEED to belong.

If we desire to recruit, retain, rejuvenate, and reestablish spaces that engage families, students, and staff, we must understand the power and importance of belonging.

In this session, we will explore "relational marketing," which recognizes the long-term value of relationship building, collaborative communication, and tools for cultivating inclusion, appreciation, and voice not just to create a program but engage in an experience of being safe, valued, and heard.

Co- Creating A Healing Community of Resilience & Trust:

Communities, however defined, are made up of people who bring a range of experiences, perspectives, and histories. Remaining open, curious, and culturally humble is essential to understanding a community’s resilience, strength, and wisdom. Let’s explore the 5 Blocks of Building Restorative Relationships that allow us to create holistic and supportive spaces that are responsive to stress, diverse experiences, and trauma. This framework holds us accountable to doing the work of learning together, seeking understanding, and creating a safe, valued, and heard community.

Reset From Burnout

During this interactive dialog, professionals examine the impact of secondary traumatic stress, vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue on our mind, body and emotions and then strategize tangible ways to explore the 5 Blocks of Building Restorative Relationships that allow us to create holistic and supportive spaces. This 5 Part framework holds us accountable to doing the work of learning together, seeking understanding, and creating a safe, valued, and heard community.
